How do you play a Native American Flute?

With joy in your heart!

Seriously, the best thing I can say is go sit in a quiet place and play. The flute will get you there.

On a more technical note, if you're playing a five hole flute as most of mine are you merely need to stay in key in order for things to sound good. To do this simply open holes from the bottom and close them from the top. Where you start getting into tricky territory is when you have holes closed below an open hole. If you avoid this you will be in key on a five hole flute.

I also can highly recommend a book by Tim "WindWalker" Crawford - Flute Magic: An Introduction to the Native American Flute (2nd ed). I have copies of this book available or you can contact the author directly at windwalker@gci.net
